Nature's Weather Predicters

Most Octobers you watch the leaves flit to the ground one by one. Carefully orchestrated by tiny cellos and violins. You can see the subtle differences in hues as they change into their warmer jackets. This year, however, it seems the trees have grown tired of waiting and have shook the leaves off all at once like a wet dog. Standing tall and naked in the icy wind. Wooly bear's auburn band seems a little on the small side and the crickets are congregating underfoot to lay their eggs. They sense the impending doom of winter on their short lives. The squirrels are still gathering and several chipmunks have been out and about as well. What will the winter bring us??

Two sets of Footprints...Which will it be?

It seems to me that there are so many unexpected twists in life, it's hard to believe we don't all end up dizzy and puking on the floor! However, without those double helix paths we would never discover the strength we have deep inside us to pick ourselves back up off the ground. Sometimes we are so busy laying our own footprints in the sand, we ignore the pair already laid out beside us. You know, that path that leads you around the sinkhole and around the shark-infested waters. However, we are just too stubborn to be led. We are like two year olds who want to do it our way or nobody's way! We stamp our feet and shake our hand loose from the Father's and tell Him we know where we're going! But then it happens...you either step in seagull #@$ or you fall in with the sharks! And believe me, those maneaters are NOT compassionate or understanding, and they don't give a lick what happens to you! And when the tide comes in you will want to be walking in those fatherly footprints. They will lead you to safety.

Goose flesh

As I stare out my window while writing this, it seems the squirrels are working overtime. Gathering hickory nuts at such a hastened speed. Where did the fall go so quickly? One minute it is here, and the next feels like Old Man Winter has become an uninvited guest! The chartreuse leaves are still hanging onto their maple branches, but I'm not sure how much longer the grip will hold. We found a little Luna caterpillar a few days ago and brought him inside. He has now turned ruddy and has sewn himself into the dry leaves to pupate for the winter. Even he knows it's gotten very algid, very fast! If I dare step out to check the mail today, I'm just asking for goose flesh!

Jovial Jars

My Jovial Jars for this Fall season feature candy corn, dry roasted peanuts, and milk chocolate chips. Some say it tastes just like a payday! It is so yummy!! I have two sizes currently available. There is a medium sized snap lid jar, and a 16 oz. mason jar. The current ornaments I have made include Pumpkin Patchwork, Funny Fall Feline, Give a Hoot, Gone Batty, and Leaf it Alone. This has been incredibly fun for me to experiment with. Can't wait to see what progresses next season!

Autumn is falling upon us...

Autumn is my favorite time of year! The smell of slowly decaying leaves of red, golden, and copper being wisked across the green grass. Bonfires smoldering in the backyard. Little ones roasting smores and giggling in the brisk clean air!

As I was chewing on a piece of candy corn the other day I started wondering what new craft I might try my hand at. And thus, Jovial Jars has been born. I already have several orders for my jars! It is so exciting! Each jar comes beautifully decorated and includes one of my handmade paperclay ornaments. Next season will come the snowmen! I can't wait. I love those squishy little guys!
